Edward O'Connor for Congress

Ed O’Connor ( aka Edward F. O’Connor) announces the formation of an exploratory committee to “ test the waters” – a legal term of art-for the efficacy of a run for U.S. Congress ( 21 Dist)

Ed is a moderate Democrat who rejects the extremism of both parties. He believes strongly that this country belongs to the middle who, as Bill Clinton put it “work hard, pay their taxes, and play by the rules”. Today the Republican party is firmly in the grasp of fiscal extremists, who’s Big Beautiful B.S. Bill is driving us over the debt cliff while their sales tax tariffs are driving up the cost of living and creating international uncertainty. Russia murders civilians in Ukraine while Congressional Republicans sit on their sanctions bill. Bibi starves kids in Gaza while Republicans remain silent. Ed will focus his campaign on detailed examinations of the issues-without the usual platitudes! 

Ed Was born in Lake Charles La. at Lake Charles Army Air Corps base. His father had been a Bombardier navigator in World War II stationed in North Africa.   Ed’s  mother- to- be was also stationed in North Africa as a captain in the Red Cross where she served as a French – English translator. The rest-as they say-is history.

After the war, his father completed his law degree at Indiana University in Bloomington where Ed had his first exposure to university life as well as the law. Upon graduation, President Truman handpicked his father to be in charge of status of forces prosecutions in Europe, stationed in Paris. While in Paris for only a year, Ed nonetheless has vivid memories of his time there and actually still remembers a smattering of French, which after all was his first language.

Upon returning from France, his father was The First Assistant US attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. The families’ return to Indiana coincided with Truman’s campaign for president. During that campaign Eds father personally introduced Ed to President Truman, and Ed has been fascinated by politics ever since.

Ed received his JD Law Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. Upon graduation he went to work as a patent lawyer for the Air Force. He was a civilian with the civilian equivalent rank of Major. He obtained this position as his first job out of law school, which was a highly unusual event. Lawyers who begin their careers in Air Force Jag usually do so with the rank of Captain. Beginning a career with Jag as a Major, or the civilian equivalent of a Major, is basically unheard of. The reason Ed was asked to take this position was that he had obtained a physics degree from the University of Michigan. The Air Force, primarily because of the space program and because of its developments of sophisticated nuclear weapons, determined that it was in urgent need of obtaining patent protection for technology developed by its in-house personnel, and, perhaps even more significantly, by  private companies retained by the government to work on these particular projects. Primarily because of his background in quantum mechanics Ed was uniquely qualified to draft patents in these complicated areas. 

This was the beginning of a long and varied career as a lawyer, including : a public defender, a trial lawyer in state and Federal trial courts in multiple states, a U.S. Supreme Court lawyer, an appellate lawyer in over half the US Circuit Courts of Appeal, a lawyer before the Internation Trade Commission, an immigration lawyer, etc. Ed’s current resume can be seen on his Cal. firm’s web page : Avynolaw.com

Ed practiced in Palm Beach, Fl for 13 years. He later moved to Cal. and practiced there for many years, including serving as senior intellectual property and litigation atty for Intel in the 1980’s.

He returned to Fl. to wind down his practice and sort of retire and sort of not. He was recognized in 2025 as one of the 1% most honored lawyers in the country. He has a Martindale Hubble A rating from lawyers as well as the judiciary. The Los Angeles Times recognized him as one of the top lawyers in Southern Cal.

As a teenager, Ed’s role models were his parents and President Kennedy. Ed’s father spoke frequently of Kennedy’s older brother Joe, who was in the Army Air Corps at the same time as Ed’s Dad. The O’Connor family followed young Jack’s House and Senate career and supported his run for vice-president in 1956 ( Ed’s Dad was the Democrat’s candidate for the Indiana Court of Appeals at that time) . When Congressman Jimmy Nolan told Ed’s Dad that young Jack would be president someday, Ed’s Dad replied “ Does his Mom know he became a Protestant? “To this day, Ed insists that John F. Kennedy was our country’s greatest president. Not just because of his policies, but because he was such an inspiration . Remember Kennedy’s challenge to us all: “ Ask NOT what your country can do for you, ask rather what YOU can do for your country”

In politics, Ed was a campaign volunteer for Senator Ted Kennedy in1970. He spent a lot of time with the Senator and treasures those memories. He also was a speech writer for Rose Kennedy, who was herself a force of nature. He moved to Palm Beach after that campaign and began the practice of law, opening an office in Palm Beach -With no clients-( what a moron). Having too much time on his hands, he founded the Palm Beach County Young Democrats in the 1970’s. He was on the Democratic Executive Committee. He chaired Ted Kennedy’s Palm Beach campaign during Kennedy’s presidential run. He also chaired George McGovern’s campaign committee in Palm Beach County. Ed was also an unsuccessful candidate for the Fl. House-a feat he once again accomplished in 2018. Not one to learn from experience, he is now running for the US Congress- When will he learn- o when will he ever learn ??? ( score music) 

IN ED’S 2018 RUN, HE EMPHASIZED THE URGENT NEED TO PROTECT LAKE OKEECHOBEE, ITS ADJACENT WATERWAYS, AND THE BEACHES FROM MAN MADE POLUTION. To this day the problem remains unresolved. His long-time wonderful significant is Ms. Judy (who is also the world’s most compassionate as well as the world’s most -best ever- immigration lawyer). They are very proud of their doggy- who is well known to the wonderful people who worked the last campaign– Mr. Francois Pierre-the worlds bestest-no not beastest- French Bulldog !!!

Growing up as a military brat, Ed moved a lot and has lifelong friends around the country. In addition to France, he lived in Mexico City for 3 years and speaks fluent Spanish. He has traveled extensively throughout the world lecturing on international intellectual property law and its impact on the economies of many countries including, in particular, US and China.

He is extremely concerned with the irresponsible economic policies of the Administration and the present Congress and believes he is qualified to explain to the American people why and how we can change course. In part, his qualifications stem from the fact that he was able to place out of three years of economics at Michigan, taking the only two remaining undergraduate courses. The reason he was able to place out of three years was because of his extensive background in advanced calculus as well as what he learned from his father who was an econ major at the time Roosevelt was introducing Lord Keynes and his Keynesian economics to this country's economic policies. Ed has no patience for lack of focus by politicians on solving actual problems. His motto is SOMS ( stamp out meaningless slogans) (Don’t worry-he’ll have a different motto tomorrow.). In fact, the campaign is actively soliciting possible campaign messages. Among the best received so far are : “Better dead than Ed”; … “Edward Edward he’s our man. If he can’t do it, well F you loser”;… Vote for Ed, you could do worse- Its possible ”;… “ Get outa bed and vote for Ed”; … “If you don’t vote for Ed, who will?”;… “ Vote for Ed, he’s not as stupid as he looks”;…. “ What do Mr. Ed and Ed have in common? They both talk-AND they are both named Ed”

The above nonsense was brought to you by Mike-Ed’s high school campaign manager when Ed ran for vice president of the student body/prom king. In spite of the terrible campaign run on Ed’s behalf, he won!!! Unfortunately, that was the last time he won an election.

On a serious note, this election will have massive long-term impacts on this country’s very existence. The bottom is already dropping out of the dollar because of the massive debt being created by the “Big Bill”. Ed will be discussing, in depth, the many issues we face. He will not be gentle. In particular, the slashing of taxes for the most wealthy is estimated by the Congressional Budget Office to add some 4.1 trillion dollars over 9 years-to the already existing debt of 37 trillion. At that rate, we will soon be able to ONLY pay interest on the debt-with tax dollars-leaving no money for anything else, and no ability to borrow- or the end of our country as we know it. That alone demands that we change Congress so we can restore some sense of fiscal sanity to our country before it is too late. It’s not a matter of party-it’s a matter of survival.
